GILPIN'S SITE  SANDY ROW

‘Gilpin’s is a site which holds much cultural and historical significance for the community as a whole and it breaks our hearts to see it slowly decline into a site of dereliction. We would really like to see this site developed in to an economic and cultural hub around which economic and physical renewal would be focused’.

The above is a quote from the speech made by Garnet Busby at the launch of the King William Mural in Linfield Road on the 2nd July 2012. Some Six months ago Belfast South Community Resources met with minister Nelson McCausland, the NIHE and Belfast City Council re this site and how it could be best saved for community use. At this time we applied for funding to have an options appraisal done, this appraisal would involve a wide scale community consultation during which the community would be consulted as to how they would like to see the Gilpin’s site developed. We are happy to be able to announce that the funding for this has been granted and that the process of community consultation will begin on Monday. This process will involve public meetings, meetings with interested groups, on line questionnaires etc. We would appeal for all local people and groups with an interest to contact us and to make sure their voice is heard.
