What We Do

There are two core elements to the Moving Up Programme: Big Step and Seven-Up. Big Step supports the transition from Nursery to Primary School. The Seven-Up programme is delivered to P7 children moving from Primary to Post Primary School.

Eligibility
Targets children and their parents who live within South Belfast. Moving Up is delivered by BSCR and is part of the BSEI Project. Transitions is a Department for Education Wrap-Around Project, funded by the Department of Justice

Transition Sessions

We work in Primary schools to deliver transition sessions for P7s going into Secondary School - aimed at developing relevant skills, self-confidence and promoting good well-being!

How we do it
We aim to improve the transition experience through a series of workshops that include topics such as Time Management, Travelling to school, Internet safety, Bag Prep, School Maps, Healthy Eating, Timetables, Uniforms, Making new friends and much more...

Mindfulness Sessions

The kids have have great fun in their mindfulness sessions - P1 have done some mindful colouring to music and P7 have done some grounding and positive affirmations!

Summer Trips

Our Moving Up trips takes us to Let’s Go Hydro and Prison Island which gives the children an opportunity to meet others who may be going to same secondary school as them!

All In One Day

The All-in-One Day event was held at Queen’s University PEC and positively impacted over 200 children, from local schools. It fostered friendships and familiarity, enhancing their ability to form new connections when transitioning to Secondary school. Additionally, the event promoted positive attitudes towards individuals from different cultures and communities through the formation of new friendships among the children who attended. This event was funded by NIHE.

Moving Up Period Empowerment Workshops

The girls in our local schools found their recent period empowerment workshops really helpful as they learnt about menstruation and reducing the stigma around periods.

A little helping hand for parents and children moving up to a new school.

Moving Up is part of the Belfast South Early Intervention Project. The project will contribute to both children and young people and their families being better supported. Each child and young person will be supported to get them the best start in life and allow them to develop from a health, education and personal perspective in order to reach their full potential. Parents will be supported in their parenting role.
