Further update from Translink on lane closure

Translink:

“We have discussed the partial lane closure on Sandy Row and the residents’ concerns and frustrations with DFI over the last few days.

DFI have had the traffic lights at the junction adjusted to minimise the delay between the green light for Linfield Road showing and the right turn to Hope Street showing green.

They have also said that because of number of changes to roads around the city, there needs to be a period of adjustment for drivers. DFI are monitoring all the junctions around the BGCS and will continue to do this for the next week, before deciding if changes need to be made.

I will review this with you again on Monday 28th October, to allow for DFI to monitor the junction.”

Our response:

BSCR have responded to this that the lane closure is unnecessary and that based on our observations we cannot understand the need to close this lane which is impacting the left turn into Linfield Road.

Several alternatives could alleviate the situation

· Take away all lights and put a temporary roundabout

· Insert left arrow on inside lane for left turn only

· Temporary signage installed to inform drivers that the inside lane is for left turn only and no through road to Boyne Bridge with the right lane being for the diversion route.
